Motivation for a Marathon

I've been reading an on-running story of a lady training for the Boston marathon which is today, in Boston. Good luck to her and to all the others out there, hoping to finish one of the most prestigious marathons. Well done for qualifying for it! *clap* She's running for the Fox Parkinson's Foundation. That is a foundation set up by Michael J. Fox who himself suffers from Parkinson's disease. It's a dreadful disease to be afflicted with, I've heard. So, those last 10 miles will be tough I'm sure.

On my running: been doing a bit, here and there. But I've been sick a lot. Bad cough in my lungs from bronchitis with puffers necessary. Not fun at all. But the weather is beautiful for getting out for nice walks. So, have been doing that.

Keep your chin up all. :)

And finally, she gets out there...

Yes, finally, this week I've done two nice jogs out there. Yipee! Just simple ones over my usual 4 km route. I've been out of it long enough that a 1 min jog then 1 min walk is good exercise! But I'll keep at it and get myself back up to the 10 mins run and 1 min walk. I find since I've been off the Zyprexa that the breathing is easier! Obviously it affected my breathing rate slightly and made my pulse race more. Ahhh, I love running. It's been good temps. too with not too cold, not too warm and slushy, but just nice, dry roads with some dry pavement and cruncy icy stuff on the sides. Good for the grip! Wish me luck. I love hearing inspiring comments. :)

Finally, some good news

Yes, I'm able to walk again, properly! So, am going to go to the gym and walk on the treadmill. Boring but necessary. With the headphones on shouldn't be too bad, I hope. I got my application for the National Capital Race Weekend yesterday. So, will fill that out for the 10 km race in late May. I know that I can train for that distance between now and then. It'd feel good to do that! I'm so looking forward to getting out there and getting some fresh air in my lungs for a nice walk outside too.

It's unfortunate that a lot of the winter has passed by with little to no exercise but....that's life right? Have to make the best of it, while we can.

Bad News before Christmas

It was bad news before Christmas and for the 3 weeks since. I slipped on the ice and strained my knee ligaments. So, have had a hard time of walking since, believe me. It'll be a while before I'm out pounding the pavement I'd guess. *sigh* I didn't want this honestly.

Got out for a nice walk

Well, I did get out for a nice walk last night in the dark and cold. It was a nice one. Walked for 35 minutes listening to tunes on my MP3 player. Felt great to get out and get my lungs full of fresh air and feel my leg muscles really working. Felt better after too. Now, to keep it up! :) Will try!

Wiping the dust off

Okay, I've been lazy on this blog....and lazy in real life too. :( Damn. But I've got no one to blame but myself. I just find the spark necessary to urge me out that door to go do exercise hasn't been there. I've not felt that urge to get going. I know I need to find it soon. The cool, winter days are here and I do like winter running. It's easy to find a comfort zone on most days and feel really good about running afterwards. I know I need to get out there and JUST DO IT! I'll try, I promise.

Not to make excuses

But I've had a head cold. The drippy nose, sneezing, snuffling, feeling awful kind of head cold. With a sore throat and a fever one day. So, this week, have only gotten out for one walk on Tuesday, the sixth of Sept. Otherwise, zip, nada, nothing for exercise.

A friend is going to train for the Big Sur marathon in early April in California. Good luck to him! That'd be so beautiful a backdrop, running along the Ocean Highway there. At times, I just wish to get out there and run.
